“Flashcutting a Gasket”
Flashcutting a gasket? It’s hard to believe it has been 15 years since the ATOM Flashcut was brought to the US market. The ATOM Flashcut has drastically changed the gasket cutting marketplace in this short amount of time. Just 15 years ago when this table was brought to market, a swing arm clicker press and an Allpax cutter, were your gasket shop needed to be competitive. Only the big shops were able to build dies in house to meet tight turnarounds.
With the advent of more costly and technical materials required in the modern world the market changed. These more costly materials created a demand for greater material utilization, flexibility, and a move towards Just in Time Inventory Management. The ATOM Flashcut was designed to meet these demands, with its automated nesting strategies and the flexibility created cutting without dies. It became a perfect short to medium production unit. The real key to its success is that on these small to medium production runs, it allowed small shops to compete with any shop in the country. They were no longer beholden to die makers. If they had the material in house, they could respond as quick or quicker than the large shops.
Now, the market is changing again, with the success of the not only the ATOM Flashcut, but other digital cutting methods such as laser, waterjet and plasma, the industry almost expects not incur tooling charges. Additionally, with the current push to bring more manufacturing back to the US, With this push for more and more production to be cut without tools, there is now a demand for higher volume die less solutions. This being said we at Manufactures Supplies are happy to introduce the ATOM Flex 4115 2H cutting system.
The ATOM Flex 4115 2H is the next evolution in die less Flashcutting gaskets. The ATOM 4115 2H is equipped with twin independently controlled gantries. Unlike multi-head waterjets or lasers the cutting heads are completely independent. There is no sacrifice in material utilization or flexibility to gain this added productivity. Studies by the ATOM Main group have confirmed that the ATOM 4115 2H increased production on average by over 70% vs a more traditional single gantry cutting system.
ATOM Flex 2H Series
The ATOM FlashCut High Production Knife Cutting Systems, FLEX 2H Series, is a new dieless cutting technology combining flexibility and output. ATOM knife cutting tables have a reputation as one of the fastest machines on today’s market. However, we realize the market is always looking for a more versatile & productive system. Therefore, we designed a cutting system with two independent multi-tool cutting heads available as a static bed for sheets or equipped with a transport cutting belt for processing materials in rolls.
The FLEX 2H Series boasts the same features & improvements in technology as the traditional FLEX Series. The solid steel rack and pinion system in place of a cogged belt increase the precision and operating speeds of the machine while the two pre-charged linear guide rails and enlarged beam adds to the robustness of the system. The new cutting surface with a higher degree of planarity coupled with the unique ‘smart’ partitioned zoned vacuum system add even more suction power improving cut quality and overall accuracy. With the option to add an overhead camera system for material contour recognition, projectors to visualize the cutting layout for assisted parts collection, the modular multi-tool cutting heads and the powerful yet simple to use production control software make the FlashCut “FLEX 2H” an efficient, versatile, powerful & highly productive CNC digital cutting system.
Engineered and designed to cut the hardest materials used in the petro-chemical, automotive, aerospace, composites & technical textiles, & packaging industries like compressed non asbestos, 1-2 layer steel inserted graphite, dense rubber, cross linked polyethylene foam, Kevlar, plastics, and many more. Since ATOM develops its technology in close collaboration with its clients, today it is able to offer the most advanced and most applicable cutting solution on the market – the new FlashCut ‘FLEX 2H’.
The Chiesa F1 EDI CNC Traveling Head Press, with 3 numerically controlled axes, incorporates an electrically servo driven cutting head without the use of hydraulics. This ‘GREEN’ technology reduces power consumption up to 50%, eliminates all the maintenance associated with hydraulic components, and improves overall accuracy, repeatability & production throughout. In addition, to improve overall productivity & material yields, the press is equipped with either a 4, 7 or 14 position automatic tool changing device which is attached to the side of machine.

These die cutting systems are extremely efficient. The ATOM Flashcut TWINS EMH (Electric Milling Head) Series CNC Knife Cutting & Milling Systems allows to sequentially or separately using the cutting knife & the router. It is the ideal dieless solution to combine the process of foam or rigid materials as well a vast number of other materials with a single tool. The combination of knife cutting & milling in a single machine allows a company to rapidly increase time to market, eliminate the costly steps in the manufacturing process including cutting dies, lamination & assembly, reduce labor costs (machine can run unattended), and gain new business by producing samples and prototypes within minutes.
The double Z-Axis head provides independent penetration control of both tools which allows the working of 3D shapes of any density foams (Expanded PE, PU etc.) or very hard materials like rubber, plastics, wood, composites even light alloys with extreme accuracy. In order to mill a wider range of materials, ATOM designed a new head, equipped with either a 1kW or 2.4kW electric router spindle, with variable speed turning from 1,000-40,000 RPM. An integrated air cooling system allows the mill to operate 24 hours per day. The working area is kept perfectly cleaned with its own internal dust extraction system.
