ATOM Flashcut Dieless Knife Cutting Systems Main Operating Features
- Two Independent Working Areas: While the machine is cutting on an area the operator can collect cut parts, prepare the next material & lay-out on the other one. It is possible to equip the machine with a dual projection system to perform nesting even on large materials occupying the entire cutting surface.
- Precision Cutting & Parts Ready for Next Production Stage: Often times materials cut with other technologies require some further refinement before being used. An example of this are components used for footwear soles: often must be milled to meet the required tolerances. Using an ATOM knife cutting system will guarantee sharp precise cuts which can be immediately assembled on the finished product.
- Overhead High Brightness Projectors: The overhead projectors allow a clear visualization of parts and commands on all materials. This allows the cutting operation to be faster and more accurate. Gasket fabricators enjoy the flexibility of the projectors because now they can cut any remnant or scrap, no matter how irregular the shape, by manually placing parts within the area.
With any Flashcut model, three minutes is sufficient time to switch from cutting the softer, thin materials to the hardest, thicker product:
- Smart Vacuum System: The Flashcut cutting surface is divided into different sectors, each 12" x 12", which can be independently activated. The operator can either use the digital mouse to manually set activation status of each section or let the machine automatically activate just those sectors where the cutting is performed. Concentrating the vacuum power just where it is needed allows increased cutting speeds without affecting the cut quality & precision. With this feature, it is possible to cut a wider range of materials while power consumption is minimized.
- Powerful & Versatile Cutting Head: The multiple tool cutting head allows sophisticated jobs, including engravings, perfect control on the cutting depth. The extremely powerful pneumatic knife chuck allows the cutting of very hard materials like 1/8 non-asbestos, tanged graphoil, 3/4 rubber, heavy leather, fiberboard etc. in just one pass.
- Solid Framework & High Planarity: The machine framework is extremely solid & strong, indigent to an ATOM cutting system. The precision in the manufacturing of the cutting plane ensures a perfect parallelism between the material & the cutting head, granting a homogeneous cutting precision on the whole surface.

Five Tool Integrated Cutting Head
An oscillating knife mechanism, manufactured from the finest quality materials available, provides a strong and reliable mechanism that will last a life time; two punches (offering the use of tools with different diameters) along with fully electronic control of their movement to enable a punching frequency of more than 200 punches per minute (by far superior to other available systems), and seperate pen and pricker mechanisms to round out the grouping.
High Flatness of the Cutting Surface
Achieved, thanks to special machining. It provides perfect parallelism between the material supporting surface and the cutting tools, thereby ensuring a consistently high cutting quality and above all uniformity of punching, and contributes greatly to reduce the running and maintenance costs.
Advanced Safety Systems
In developing this system, particular attention was given to operator safety; to provide the easiest handling, but in a totally safe environment. ATOM believes that safety at work is a matter of primary importance; therefore we have addressed our efforts to increase the safety levels beyond the currently adopted European regulations.

Two Independent Working Areas
The two independent working areas allows the simultaneous execution of both cutting and lay planning. The high brightness projector provides and extremely clear representation of the shapes to be nested, even on the most difficult surfaces that normally do not respond well to image projection because of color or surface finish.

Suction by Sectors
The non-movement of the material during cutting is of prime importance in knife cutting systems of this nature, since it allows for precision at high cutting speeds and increases the types of materials that can be cut. Suction by sectors, is a totally automatic function, which controls the activation of the necessary sectors, relative to the materials shapes and size, by means of a dedicated software control, to concentrate the suction only where needed. It enables the material to be perfectly secured during cutting without the waste of energy in those areas devoid of material. This same feature may be selected manually.
Variable Power of the Vacuum Pump
As a famous advertisement said, "power is nothing without control"; the possibility of varying the pump vacuum power, allows the use of high vacuum for the best stability of certain materials and it's reduction whenever less is needed, thus promoting better energy use.
Automatic Nesting
The installed software package provides the following additional capabilities, in addition to the standard functions of interactive positioning:

Acquisition of the Leather Contour; (material boundary) both manually (through digitization) and fully automatic (by means of the suitable video camera).

Defects Marking; which enables the operator to mark leather defects, so as to signal to the semi-automatic or automatic positioning devices, the points where to avoid placing the pieces to be cut.

Inner Nesting; this function allows, the operator, by means of the interactive positioning of three or more pieces, to define areas (vertices of which are represented by the positioned pieces) inside which it is possible to carry out the automatic nesting.

Semi-automatic positioning; which automatically fills those areas of the leather where no piece has been manually positioned, thus allowing the operator to concentrate merely on the positioning of the most important pieces.

Automatic Positioning; automatically carries out the optimized positioning of the pieces to be cut. This software, can, at present, keep notice of leather defects, partially of the directional constraints, but not the quality areas--it is particularly suitable for cutting linings.
Optional Devices
