ATOM Flashcut Dieless Knife Cutting Systems Main Operating Features
- Two Independent Working Areas: While the machine is cutting on an area the operator can collect cut parts, prepare the next material & lay-out on the other one. It is possible to equip the machine with a dual projection system to perform nesting even on large materials occupying the entire cutting surface.
- Precision Cutting & Parts Ready for Next Production Stage: Often times materials cut with other technologies require some further refinement before being used. An example of this are components used for footwear soles: often must be milled to meet the required tolerances. Using an ATOM knife cutting system will guarantee sharp precise cuts which can be immediately assembled on the finished product.
- Overhead High Brightness Projectors: The overhead projectors allow a clear visualization of parts and commands on all materials. This allows the cutting operation to be faster and more accurate. Gasket fabricators enjoy the flexibility of the projectors because now they can cut any remnant or scrap, no matter how irregular the shape, by manually placing parts within the area.
With any Flashcut model, three minutes is sufficient time to switch from cutting the softer, thin materials to the hardest, thicker product:
- Smart Vacuum System: The Flashcut cutting surface is divided into different sectors, each 12" x 12", which can be independently activated. The operator can either use the digital mouse to manually set activation status of each section or let the machine automatically activate just those sectors where the cutting is performed. Concentrating the vacuum power just where it is needed allows increased cutting speeds without affecting the cut quality & precision. With this feature, it is possible to cut a wider range of materials while power consumption is minimized.
- Powerful & Versatile Cutting Head: The multiple tool cutting head allows sophisticated jobs, including engravings, perfect control on the cutting depth. The extremely powerful pneumatic knife chuck allows the cutting of very hard materials like 1/8 non-asbestos, tanged graphoil, 3/4 rubber, heavy leather, fiberboard etc. in just one pass.
- Solid Framework & High Planarity: The machine framework is extremely solid & strong, indigent to an ATOM cutting system. The precision in the manufacturing of the cutting plane ensures a perfect parallelism between the material & the cutting head, granting a homogeneous cutting precision on the whole surface.
- Operator Safety: All of the Flashcut dieless knife cutters are equipped with state-of-the-art safety equipment which meet and exceed CE safety rules & regulations and are in full compliance with OSHA.
- Advanced yet Simple to Use Control Software: All of the ATOM knife cutting tables are powered by advanced and reliable control software which manage any operation using a simple menu designed to operate quickly & simplify operator training. The power of the software can partially substitute operator skill; with the exception of leather hide quality marking & complex manual nesting which require experienced operators, for any other operation a few hours training is sufficient.
- Automatic or Interactive Nesting: The Flashcut knife cutters use a very powerful & versatile automatic nesting system. The main features included are:
Assists the operator in handling quantities & in respecting production constraints;
Ability to define layouts manually quickly;
Automatic material contour recognition (models with digital camera only) and manual contour definition;
Automatic nesting with defects, quality area & production constraints advanced management;
Mixed nesting: the operator is able to manually place some parts & then start the automatic nesting to complete the layout.
High operating efficiency with interactive nesting, highly optimized layouts with outstanding yields thanks to the sophisticated nesting algorithms.
Combination of Cutting & Milling in a Single Machine
The new ATOM Flashcut EMHD 2 Z-Axis & MH series were designed for industries which cut and mill foams for manufacturing packaging, tool holder cases and sound proof components. This system can also be used for cutting and or milling carbon fibers & similar composites, rubber, hard plastic materials, (PVC, polycarbonates, acrylics etc..), wood, light metals (aluminum), alloys (brass & copper) and similar materials. To keep the working area perfectly clean, the machine is provided with a dust extraction system, consisting of a brush around the milling tool and a pipe which connects to the vacuum system. The exhauster pipe is perfectly integrated in the beam structure to avoid any possible interference while working. To mill a wider range of material we designed a new head, holding a 3 kW electric router spindle with variable speed turning from 1,000 up to 50,000 RPM. The speed can be varied and monitorized through a dedicated digital control panel. A liquid cooling system allows the router spindle to work 24 hours a day.

The continuous cutting operation performed by the conveyorized bed offers maximum production and throughput of cut parts. The material is fed onto the bed of the machine into the "cutting zone". Once the components are cut, the conveyorized bed feeds to a take-off area located at the front of the machine. The operator can strip of the cut parts while the machine automatically reloads the material and the cutting process continues. This series is also available with two independent cutting heads. (2H Version)
